The stages of becoming a family business as a scientific discipline are considered in the article. The characteristics of each stage, features of formation and content filling are presented. In the 1950s, family business became the subject of scientific research, and by the end of the second decade of the 21st century it had reached the stage of normal science. The basic theoretical and practical achievements of the scientific discipline are outlined. The need to further develop the basic theory of family business as the most widespread and sustainable form of business activity is recognized.References
