Theoretical discourse on the concept of "national interest" in the context of studying state relations with international financial institutions

Abstract

The article is devoted to the theoretical analysis of the concept of «national interest» in the context of studying the relations of states with international financial institutions (IFIs). Thus, the paper distinguishes realistic, idealistic, geopolitical, economic and strategic and other approaches to defining the essence of the concept under study. Attention is focused on the algorithms for formulating and implementing the policy of national interests (political, economic, social, security), which include the transformation of national needs into state goals and priorities. The article reveals the mechanisms of influence of international financial institutions on the economic policy of their member states, including the provision of financial assistance, technical support and recommendations for economic reforms. At the same time, however, the paper notes that cooperation with IFIs can have negative consequences, including strict requirements for economic reforms, fiscal consolidation and economic liberalisation, which can cause social tensions, unemployment and political instability. Based on the analysis, the article emphasises the importance of a comprehensive approach to the study of national interests and their role in shaping effective economic policy in the international context.
