Abstract

The article is devoted to the substantiation of the theoretical foundations and practical recommendations regarding the use of lean production as an organizational and economic mechanism for increasing the efficiency of the enterprise. The article states that lean manufacturing focuses on eliminating or reducing waste (or "muda," a Japanese word for waste) and maximizing or fully utilizing activities that add perspective to the product's value to the customer. Accordingly, the work defines the directions of waste reduction by their categories. The differences in the methods of implementing the concept of lean production, the positive effects and disadvantages of each of these methods are indicated. A new concept based on lean production is presented - cellular production. The company "Toyota" was taken as an example of the introduction of lean production. It is concluded that VSM (Value Stream Mapping), also known as Material and Information Flow Mapping, is an ideal tool for identifying waste and identifying areas for improvement.
