Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the monodisciplinary essence of international political economy and trends in its development as a separate discipline. The prerequisites for the emergence of the latter are highlighted on the basis of a combination of the theory of international relations and theories of macroeconomic development with the world economy.
There are several main stages in the development of modern political economy: the merger of the political and macroeconomic spheres; formation of an integrated approach to the study of international processes; formalization of international political economy; finding a balance between different levels of approval of international decisions in the world. The main problems of studying the differences between the methodological approaches of international political

economy from the political and macroeconomic directions of the analysis of international processes are considered. It was determined that political and macroeconomic studies cover many international processes (commerce, financial relations, socio-economic development, transnationalization, interstate cooperation, regionalization, globalization, activities of countries and non-state actors in the international arena).
Based on this subject of political economy studies the political factors of economic phenomena in the world and the economic prerequisites of international political processes. The discipline method is the application of a relatively clear set of analytical approaches. The combination of political and economic sciences led to the formation of its own theoretical core of political economy. It discusses theories that reflect the essence of political economy at a conceptual and formal level. International political economy is characterized by the formation of an eclectic paradigm.
